On the afternoon of August 16th, 2024, the event took place in Huludao on Cultural Facilities Access to Chinese Cultural Practices like Ba Duan Jin & Tai Chi, hosted by the Municipal Organs Working Committee, along with Municipal Federation of Trade Unions, Municipal Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio & Television. The opening was addressed by Liu Zhanyuan, the Standing Committee member and Secretary General of the Municipal Party Committee, also Secretary of the Municipal Organs Working Committee, in the presence of Liu Hui, Vice Mayor, and Wang Zhongping, the Standing Committee Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Congress, and Chairman of the Municipal Federation of Trade Unions.

Traditional culture is kept alive and lively in China, from Tai Chi to Ba Duan Jin, an eight-section workout compared to “brocade”. They are arguably tonics to take body and spirit up a level, as a nod to old-established treasure troves of wisdom and spirituality. The event came as an exchange competition to engage service officials spiritually with fabled cultural gems for healthcare and productivity amid the 3-year Consciousness Program, sponsored by the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee. The exchange function brought in a cohort of 587 participants out of 26 teams from 37 units, including 72 performers from 40 units vying for the individual category.

On the arena, the players displayed a vibrant vibe to the soul-soothing Tai Chi music, from body stretching, fisting in a stride, to knee lifting and elbow hitting, definitely a free-flowing style of mighty and mild, reserved and retained. This was a feel-good, life-affirming showcase of mentality and spirituality steeped in the public authorities, which will help them connect with service routines, inspiring the onward participation of the wider public.
